If you’re looking for a unique experience on a Saturday afternoon definitely sign-up for A Doc Porter’s Grain-To-Glass Tour! My date and I had an amazing time learning about the history of spirits before, during, and after Prohibition. The current distillery world is fascinating and Jeff, our charismatic tour guide, highlighted some truly unique facts and teasers to “wet our whistles” before the tour started. The tour is accessible for all ages, but only participants 21 years of age or older can participate in the included tastings. Doc Porter’s Tour highlights all 3 of the Suavexor Trifecta standards.
TEAM: Doc Porter’s has an AWESOME TEAM that is welcoming and charismatic. You can tell they love what they do.
Jeff, our Tour Guide, was well-versed in the history of spirits. His enthusiasm and tongue-in-cheek humor was definitely a highlight of our visit.
Chris, the Head Distiller, was great at keeping the information accessible to our group of novice while displaying his true passion for the distilling process.
Jason, a Master Mixologist, serves up one of the best glasses of Doc’s Hooch this side of Mecklenburg County and can tell you anything you need to know about the gift shop swag.
Tour: You will absolutely love the focus on agriculture, chemistry, and community that comes together in making and distributing Doc Porter’s quality spirits. I don’t want to give too much away. If you can’t book a tour, definitely consider popping in on a Friday or Saturday for a tasting (no reservation required).
Taste: My new found love of Bourbon brought me in for the tour. Vodka, gin, and aged whiskey were also available for our tasting pleasure. The treasure for me personally was the newly released 2019 Limited Edition bottle of KomHOOCHa. Doc Porter’s team collaborated with Lenny Boy Brewing Co. to distill Strawberry Kombucha Wild Ale into the magic that is KomHOOCHa. Only 598 bottles were produced and some are still available. Run don’t walk and grab your holiday gift. You will not be disappointed!
Doc Porter’s is truly a treasure in our community. Not only do they source their ingredients locally and work exclusively with area farmers to receive the grains needed. But they also host fundraiser “Bottling” parties to benefit local community organizations and nonprofits. Be sure to put Doc Porter’s Distillery on your must-do list.
